Health in the Gambia is a major problem, with Malaria, Wounds & Malnutrition being among the most common. There is very little welfare state provision and most medications have to be paid for. We have provided training and support for four first aiders in the area. More serious medical needs have to go to the Medical Centre at Brikama, about 5 kilometers away. Transport to here is bush taxi, if you are lucky, bicycle or a long walk. Charges at the Centre have recently increased from 5 Dalasies (8p) to 100 Dalasies (£1.50).
This small health service costs about £60 per month to run and funds are badly needed to be sure that we can carry on providing it in the future
